August music schedule includes something for everyone
From flower power to new wave, post-punk to alternative rock, all bases are covered in August

PINELLAS COUNTY – August continues the summer concert season with a wide variety of artists set to perform at venues across the Tampa Bay area, including some tours that bring together legendary performers on a single bill.

Projekt Revolution, an annual music festival hosted by Linkin Park, is Saturday, Aug. 2, 2 p.m., at Ford Amphitheatre, 4802 U.S. 301 N., Tampa. Tickets range from $14 to $70.75.

The ’80s Regeneration Tour will unite some of the most celebrated acts of the 1980s for one performance on Saturday, Aug. 30, 7 p.m., at Ruth Eckerd Hall, 1111 McMullen Booth Road., Clearwater. Tickets range from $33 to $65.

Bands set to perform include ABC with Martin Fry (“Poison Arrow,” “The Look of Love” and “When Smokey Sings”), The Romantics (“What I Like About You”), Missing Persons (“Destination Unknown” and “Walking in L.A.”), A Flock of Seagulls (“I Ran”) and Naked Eyes (“Always Something There To Remind Me” and “Promises, Promises”). Ford Amphitheatre

- Saturday, Aug. 16 – Rascal Flatts, 6 p.m. Tickets range from $30.75 to $75.50.

- Friday, Aug. 22 – Stone Temple Pilots, 7 p.m. Tickets range from $39.50 to $55.

- Thursday, Aug. 28 – Rod Stewart, 7:30 p.m. Tickets range from $35 to $135.

- Friday, Aug. 29 – Kenny Chesney, 7:30 p.m. Tickets range from $37.25 to $75.

- Saturday, Aug. 30 – John Mayer, 7 p.m. Tickets are $30 to $53.

Jannus Landing Courtyard

Candlebox, one of the original Seattle grunge bands, will perform on Friday, Aug. 15, 7 p.m., at Jannus Landing.

Known for a string of hits in the 1990s including “You,” “Far Behind” and “Cover Me,” the band reunited in 2006 and recently released a new album, “Into the Sun” featuring the single “Stand.”

Other acts scheduled in the courtyard include:

- Sunday, Aug. 3 – Alter Bridge, 7 p.m. Tickets are $22.

- Thursday, Aug. 7 – Coheed and Cambria, 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $24.

- Sunday, Aug. 17 – King’s X, 7 p.m. Tickets are $15 in advance, $18 at the door.

- Saturday, Aug. 23 – Blessid Union of Souls, 8 p.m. Tickets are $9.99 in advance, $15 at the door.

- Sunday, Aug. 24 – Dave Matthews Tribute Band, 7 p.m. Tickets are $9.99 in advance, $12 at the door.

- Saturday, Aug. 30 – Young Jeezy, 7 p.m. Tickets are $39.99 in advance, $49.99 at the door.

Largo Cultural Center

The center will host several tribute bands in August, including acts that pay homage to Fleetwood Mac, AC/DC, Black Sabbath, ZZ Top and Stevie Ray Vaughan.

- Friday, Aug. 15 – Fleetwood Max, 8 p.m. Tickets are $20.

- Saturday, Aug. 16 – Highway to Hell and Supertzar, 8 p.m. Tickets are $15.

- Saturday, Aug. 23 – ZZ Not and Texas Flood, 8 p.m. Tickets are $15.

The Orpheum

- Saturday, Aug. 9 – The Dear Hunter, 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 in advance, $12 at the door.

- Wednesday, Aug. 27 – Matt Pryor, 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 in advance, $12 at the door.

Ruth Eckerd Hall

Boston, featuring Stryper frontman Michael Sweet, will perform on Saturday, Aug. 23, 8 p.m., at Ruth Eckerd Hall.

Tickets range from $45 to $125.

Joining Sweet will be musical veterans Jeff Neal, Kimberley Dahme, Gary Pihl and new phenom Tommy DeCarlo. Boston’s self-titled first album has sold more than 17 million copies to date and has enjoyed a resurgence in sales after it was remastered by Scholz, along with the band’s second album, “Don’t Look Back.” Boston’s hits include “More Than a Feeling,” “Peace of Mind,” “Rock and Roll Band” and “Amanda.”

- Saturday, Aug. 9 – Hippiefest, featuring Jack Bruce, The Turtles, Badfinger and Melanie, 7 p.m. Tickets range from $48.50 to $85.

- Wednesday, Aug. 20 – Smashing Pumpkins, 8 p.m. Tickets range from $39.50 to $49.50.

St. Pete Times Forum

- Thursday, Aug. 21 – American Idols Live, 7 p.m. Tickets range from $51.75 to $65.75.

- Friday, Aug. 29 – The Mystic Orchestra: Flashback, the Classic Rock Experience, 8 p.m. Tickets range from $27 to $150.

State Theatre

- Wednesday, Aug. 20 – Thrash and Burn with Darkest Hour, 4 p.m. Tickets are $16 in advance, $18 day of show.

Skipper’s Smokehouse

Seminole’s own Billy Norris, back from the Manhattan School of Music in New York City, will perform on Sunday, Aug. 10, 5 p.m., at Skipper’s Smokehouse.

Tickets are $10.

Norris’ interest in music was apparent from a very young age. Things got serious when his father handed down one of his own guitars to him. By the time he entered high school, Norris was pursuing his inner jazz animal, studying bass with a USF adjunct professor Mark Neuenschwander and attending summer programs including Berklee College’s inaugural Summer Jazz Workshop and, in 2005 and 2006, participating in the Grammy Jazz Combo.

- Tuesday, Aug. 5 – Chris McCarty, 8 p.m. Tickets are $7 in advance, $10 at the door.

- Friday, Aug. 8 – Amanda Shaw and the Cute Guys, 8 p.m. Tickets are $12 in advance, $15 at the door.

- Friday, Aug. 22 – Tinsley Ellis, 8 p.m. Tickets are $10 in advance, $13 at the door.

- Sunday, Aug. 24 – Christie Lenee and the Funkgrass Groove, with Rebecca Zapen, 5 p.m. Tickets are $7.
