Smashing Pumpkins returns to REH

CLEARWATER – For the first time in more than eight years, Smashing Pumpkins returns to the Tampa Bay area on Wednesday, Aug. 20, 8 p.m., at Ruth Eckerd Hall, 1111McMullen Booth Road.
Tickets priced at $49 and $39 are available at the Ruth Eckerd Hall Ticket Office located at 1111 McMullen Booth Road in Clearwater; by calling 727-791-7400 or online at www.rutheckerdhall.com. The Ruth Eckerd Hall Ticket Office is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and one hour prior to show time. Group seating is available by calling 727-712-2717.
The Smashing Pumpkins have created one of the most acclaimed bodies of work in musical history. Formed in Chicago in 1988, they released Gish, their debut in 1991, which was followed by Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness and Siamese Dream. The group’s many hits include “Disarm,” “Today,” “Cherub Rock,” “1979,” “Tonight - Tonight” and “Bullet with Butterfly Wings.”
The band returned in 2007 with their gold-certified and acclaimed sixth album
Zeitgeist. It entered the charts in July in the Top Five in the U.S. In a four-star review in Rolling Stone (July 27, 2007), David Fricke wrote: “The best thing about Zeitgeist is that Corgan is back to what he does best: hard-rock architecture. His wall-of-guitars overdubs are exhilarating in their details: the harmonized squeals in 7 Shades of Black; the creeping buzz of Tarantula; the long, howling solo, sinking in echo, in United States. The Pumpkins were never more exciting in the nineties than when Corgan unleashed his inner Tony Iommi all over his inner Robert Smith. That is what happens on Zeitgeist, which makes it a strong new start for Corgan and Chamberlin..."
The band extensively toured the world in support of Zeitgeist, including three overseas jaunts.
