Article published on Monday, Aug. 18, 2008 |
TAMPA - John Mayer with One Republic make a tour stop at the Ford Amphitheare on Saturday, Aug. 30, 7 p.m., at the Florida State Fairgounds in Tampa.
With his second consecutive year designated a “Guitar Hero” by Rolling Stone Magazine and his Continuum album scoring more Grammy wins, singer, guitarist, songwriter John Mayer hits the road again with a full fledged Summer Tour presented by Blackberry.
On July 1, a brand new 2CD, DVD and Blu-Ray package hit stores Where the Light Is: John Mayer Live in Los Angeles filmed last December at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles. The special Columbia Records release includes three distinct sets: an acoustic performance, a rare set with John Mayer Trio (John Mayer, Steve Jordan and Pino Palladino), as well as a Continuum set featuring Mayer’s full-band.
Where the Light Is will be the first new release since Continuum and incorporates each of the elements the five-time Grammy-winner is known for - acoustic songwriter, electric guitar slinger, bluesman, and vocalist. It features Mayer’s own hits, as well as versions of blues and rock favorites like Jimi Hendrix’s “Wait Until Tomorrow,” Tom Petty’s “Free Falling,” and Ray Charles’ “I Don’t Need No Doctor.”
Mayer’s Continuum earned Grammy Awards for Best Pop Vocal Album and Best Male Pop Vocal Performance ("Waiting on the World to Change") at the 49th Annual Grammy Awards, bringing his Grammy Award total to five.
One Republic’s classically trained pop rock sound culminated in their debut album, Dreaming Out Loud, which spawned their breakout hit “Apologize.” The debut single landed at No. 1 on Billboard’s Pop 100 for eight weeks and peaked at No. 2 on the Hot 100 chart. The single also set the record for number of radio spins in one week, becoming the No. 1 song in Billboard Top 40 history.
One Republic has catapulted from My Space phenomenon, to must see live act to breakout rock band; the first on Timbaland’s Mosely Music group. Dreaming Out Loud has sold over 700,000 records since its November 2007 release.
Reserve seat tickets are $53 and $38; festival lawn $30 with special four-pack for $99. Tickets are available at the box office; online at www.livenation.com; all Ticketmaster Outlets; and by phone at 727-898-2100 or 813-287-8844.
