PINELLAS COUNTY – This weekend’s smashing box office success for “The Incredible Hulk” follows an excellent performance by “Iron Man,” but Marvel Comics fans will have to wait about five months for the next film on the roster – “Punisher: War Zone” is set for release on Dec. 5.
Waging his one-man war on the world of organized crime, ruthless vigilante-hero Frank Castle sets his sights on overeager mob boss, Billy Russoti. After Russoti is left horribly disfigured by Castle, he sets out for vengeance under his new alias: Jigsaw. With the Punisher Task Force hot on his trail and the FBI unable to take Jigsaw in, Castle must stand up to the formidable army that Jigsaw has recruited before more of his evil deeds go unpunished.
Starring Ray Stevenson as The Punisher, “Punisher: War Zone” is directed by Lexi Alexander and produced by Gale Anne Hurd and will be released through Lionsgate in association with Marvel Studios, Valhalla Motion Pictures, MHF Zweite Academy Film and SGF Entertainment Inc.
Other films currently in production or development based on Marvel Comics characters include “X-Men Origins: Wolverine,” “Iron Man 2,” “Thor,” “Captain America: The First Avenger,” “The Avengers” and “Spider-Man 4.”
Of course, there are other comic-book-based films set for release in the coming months, including “The Dark Knight,” featuring DC Comics’ Batman; and “Hellboy II: The Golden Army,” featuring the Dark Horse Comics character created by Mike Mignola.
