Auditions set for 'Black Nativity'

ST. PETERSBURG - Soulful Arts Dance Academy announces open auditions for St. Petersburg’s fifth annual production of Langston Hughes’ Black Nativity: A Gospel Song Play on Saturday, Sept. 13, 1 to 3 p.m.

All persons interested in joining this year’s multicultural cast should plan to attend the audition at the Soulful Arts facility located at 290 Martin Luther King Jr. St. N. in St. Petersburg.

Auditions will include dancers who can sing and singers who can dance. Person wanting to audition should wear comfortable clothing that will allow them to freely move, jump and kick. Minimum age 12.

Auditions also will include gospel choir singers. Sopranos, altos and tenors are needed. Bring sheet music or copy of song that you wish to sing. Minimum age 13.

This fifth annual production of Black Nativity is scheduled for Dec. 5, 6, and 7 at the Palladium Theater in St. Petersburg.

Black Nativity will be directed by Bob Devin Jones and choreographed by Paulette Walker Johnson. Music director will be LaTerry Butler and Sharon Scott again will star as the Narrator.

Rehearsals will be scheduled on Saturday or Sunday afternoons.
