Sailing campers at Calvary Episcopal Church in Indian Rocks Beach give their Walker Bay sailing dinghys a spin around the Intracoastal Waterway.
INDIAN ROCKS BEACH – A group of young sailors graduated from sailing camp on June 19.

Now in its eighth season, the two-week sailing camp at Calvary Episcopal Church offered basic sailing instruction and an introduction to dinghy racing.

Camp began on June 8 and concluded with graduation on June 19. Fifty-six children, ages 7-16, were enrolled.

Many of the boats were donated by local business and community groups including Moss Feaster Funeral Home, Indian Rocks Beach Rotary, Guppy’s Restaurant, and West Marine.

The sailing camp instructors are all volunteers from Calvary Episcopal Church and Pinellas Suncoast Fire and Rescue.

Thanks to the generosity of those volunteers and the participation of parents, sailing camp was once again made available at a cost of only $50 per student.

A fall/winter program will begin in September for graduates of the 2009 summer camp.
