Operation Christmas Child seeks back-to-school boxes
CLEARWATER – Operation Christmas Child urges Clearwater residents to think of needy kids while they back-to-school shop. It needs shoe boxes filled with school supplies, toys, necessity items, candy and a letter of encouragement. Visit www.samaritanspurse.org or call 407-852-3727.

Backpack giveaway Aug. 15
CLEARWATER – The Clearwater Bar Association will give away 150 backpacks to children Friday, Aug. 15, 3 p.m., at North Greenwood Library, 900 N. Martin Luther King Jr. Ave., Clearwater. Children must be present, and the limit is one backpack per student. Call 462-6895.

Crafters sought for show
CLEARWATER – The GFWC Clearwater Junior Woman’s Club seeks crafters for its 31st annual arts and crafts show, Christmas Under the Oaks. The event is scheduled for Nov. 15 and 16 in Coachman Park, Clearwater. The crafts should be handmade and original crafts; no mass-produced, manufactured items are allowed. Crafters may participate in either or both days, but space is limited. Contact waidley@knology.net or marklisahurley@aol.com.

Camp Living Springs celebrates anniversary
CLEARWATER – The nationally recognized Camp Living Springs will celebrate its 10th anniversary this year when the three-day retreat for adult cancer survivors convenes. This year’s camp will run Friday through Sunday, Oct. 10 through 12. Applications to participate will be accepted until Friday, Aug. 15. To request a camp application, call Morton Plant Caring Partners at 461-8010.

Hosted by Morton Plant Caring Partners, volunteers with Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater, the camp is free to cancer survivors 18 years or older and meets annually at the 100-acre, DaySpring Conference Center in Ellenton. All transportation, food and camp accommodations are provided. Camp activities will include Qi Gong, canoeing, arts and crafts, dream photos, nature walks and picking flowers for a memorial wreath to remember former campers who lost their fight with cancer.

Morton Plant Mease physician elected to academy
CLEARWATER – For the fourth consecutive year, a University of South Florida Morton Plant Mease family medicine resident has been elected as vice president of the Resident Directors Board for the Florida Academy of Family Physicians. Dr. Elizabeth “Brooke” Orr was inducted by the FAFP at a recent ceremony in Naples.

The vice president and resident directors are elected by voting delegates from family medicine residency programs in Florida. Their role is to bring together physicians in residency programs and medical students to discuss family medicine and offer guidance to the FAFP board of directors on various health related topics. Orr is a graduate of the University of Alabama School of Medicine.
