Clearwater man arrested for Internet crime

CLEARWATER - Detectives arrested a Clearwater man for seduction of a child over the Internet on Monday, Aug. 18.

According to a press release from the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, Ryan Christopher Wilborn, 22, was arrested as he arrived at a an undisclosed location in North Pinellas with the intent to engage in a physical relationship with who he thought was a child under the age of 16.

Detectives received a tip in late July 2008 that the suspect was communicating with minors online. The suspect began communicating with an undercover Sheriff's Office detective assigned to the Crimes Against Children Unit, believing the communication to be taking place with a child under the age of 16.

According to detectives, the suspect engaged the "child" in sexually explicit conversation and arranged a meeting with the "child" for the purpose of engaging in sexual activity.

The suspect was arrested when he showed up for the meeting at an undisclosed location in North Pinellas County.

Wilborn was arrested for one count Certain Use of Computer Services Prohibited, a violation of Florida Statute 847.0135(3), which prohibits the use of a computer to seduce, solicit, lure, or entice a child or another person believed by the person to be a child, to engage in a sexual act.

The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office is a member of Central Florida Internet Crimes against Children Task Force.

The investigation continues.

Wilborn was released from jail on a $10,000 bond on Aug. 19. He was also arrested in April of 2008 for two counts of lewd and lascivious molestation.
