DUNEDIN – Pinellas County Sheriff’s detectives arrested two Dunedin residents April 12 in connection with aggravated child abuse of a four-month-old male infant in their care.
Silverio Avila, 20, was arrested for two counts of aggravated child abuse. Kayla Lockwood, 18, was charged with one count.
According to a report from the sheriff’s office, it is alleged the two caused injuries to the child for at least two weeks, which results in numerous fractures of the child’s rib cage and legs. Detectives with the Crimes Against Child Abuse said the two admitted to injuring the child during questioning and said it came about due to frustration that the child was crying.
The child has been placed in the care of family members outside of Pinellas County.
