Affordable housing experts needed LARGO – A new state law now requires the city create an affordable housing advisory committee to continue receiving funds to provide affordable housing.
The law requires an 11-member committee that includes members who are home builders, mortgage bankers, labor representatives, a homeless advocate, a for-profit affordable housing provider, a nonprofit housing provider, a real estate professional, a member of the city planning board, a city resident at-large, a representative of all city employers and a representative of a local essential services company.
The new committee, which must be approved by the City Commission by June 20, will oversee local needs and applications for city funds received from the State Housing Initiative Program. For more information, call 727-587-6700.
City wants employee budget-cutting ideas LARGO – After meeting with four groups of city residents to get budget-cutting ideas, the city is now asking its employees for means of paring an estimated $3 million from next year’s budget. That’s the amount of tax revenues the city staff estimates will be lost next year because of the new homestead exemptions allowed by January’s referendum. Employees may attend one of five sessions being held from March 20 to March 28 in city hall.
