LARGO – An estimated 30,000 people are expected to attend the city’s annual July 4 celebration from 7 to 10 p.m. at Largo Central Park, 101 Central Park Drive, according to city officials.
City Special Events Coordinator Charla Lucas believes the celebration is the most attended event that the city sponsors during the year.
As the time approaches for the fireworks show to begin, attendance swells.
“The park is quiet until about 8 and then it explodes,” she said.
High Velocity Entertainment DJ Christina Heubel will be providing entertainment beginning at 7 p.m. Heubel said her format is to provide family-oriented and interactive programs, with games and contests. Using cordless and corded microphones, she offers a large variety of music, including 36,000 songs.
Heubel, who lives in Largo, has been a disc jockey since 1996. She provides entertainment at family gatherings, wedding receptions, pool and luau parties and other functions.
Dr. Susan Blankenship, a pediatric dentist, will be conducting activities for children. A variety of food vendors will be on hand, serving kettle corn, sodas and other festival food, Lucas said.
No alcoholic beverages will be served and no pets or personal fireworks, including sparklers, will be allowed.
The fireworks show begins at 9 p.m.
Additional parking will be available at Largo High School and Largo Middle School.
The sponsors are Hampton Inn & Suites and Holiday Inn Express & Suites.
