Residents complain about nuisance peacocks
Article published on Thursday, Jan. 17, 2008
PINELLAS PARK – Wild peacocks are reportedly moving into some areas of the city and making pests of themselves.

There have been complaints from residents of 90th Avenue that is located in the heart of horse country. Other sightings were reported in the Lake Forest area.

One resident complained that the unwelcome fancy-tailed critters are harassing their counterparts that live legally in the area. They reportedly are noisy and have been known to chase humans and animals.

About 16 of the wild birds have been spotted in the city. No one seems to know where they originated from. They tend to nest in trees and bombard people and even vehicles with their feces.

Susan Walker, director of neighborhood services, said she looked into the complaints and referred them to animal removal specialists.

A check on 90th Avenue where the critters were last seen disclosed nothing but a few Muscovy ducks.
