Skateboarder hurt in hit-and-run
PINELLAS PARK – A St. Petersburg man was injured on April 3 when he was struck by a car whose driver sped off.

Antonio Cruz, 33, was treated at Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg for leg and hip injuries. Officer A. Aguilar said Cruz was skateboarding across U.S. 19 near 118th Avenue at about 6 a.m. when he was struck by a blue newer model Nissan Maxima. The victim was thrown over the length of the car and landed on the road. Police said the driver fled the scene without stopping. The car most likely has damage to the front end.

Pair arrested after traffic stop
PINELLAS PARK – Two people were arrested on March 27 after the driver allegedly made a quick lane change and almost hit a patrol car. Nicole Proffitt, 24, of Pinellas Park is charged with driving on a suspended or revoked license and possession of marijuana. She was released from the Pinellas County Jail after posting $5,250 bail. Deune M. Dukes, 21, of Brooksville, a passenger, is charged with possession of marijuana and is free on $250 bail. Police said Sgt. W.D. Lowe was traveling on Park Boulevard near 48th Street at about 10 p.m. when Proffitt’s vehicle nearly sideswiped the cruiser while making a lane change. Police said a search of the vehicle revealed marijuana in the ashtray. Dukes admitted to concealing marijuana in his shoe, officers said.

Man charged with fleeing
PINELLAS PARK – A St. Petersburg man was arrested on March 28 for alleged traffic infractions and fleeing police. William P. Miller, 26, is charged with driving on a suspended or revoked license and fleeing and eluding police. He was released from the Pinellas County Jail after posting $10,000 bail. Police said Miller was stopped at a traffic light at 82nd Avenue and 49th Street at about 6:15 p.m. When the light turned green, police said, Miller spun his tires and at a high rate of speed made a lane change. Behind him was Officer S.M. Grantham who tried to get the driver to stop. Miller, police said, made a U-turn, jumped from the vehicle and scaled a 6-foot chain-link fence. He was apprehended moments later.

Man arrested after argument
PINELLAS PARK – A city man was arrested after an argument over a sports team escalated. Timothy J. Snyder, 42, is charged with disorderly conduct. He was released from the Pinellas County Jail after posting $150 bail. Police said Snyder and another man were at Rudy’s Sports Bar, 11100 66th St., at about 1:45 a.m. and became embroiled in a discussion over football teams. The discussion escalated and Snyder, police said, was escorted from the premises. At one point, police said, the suspect threatened an employee with a beer bottle.

Transient jailed for kicking bus
PINELLAS PARK – A homeless man was arrested on March 27 after he allegedly caused a scene on a Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority bus, and then kicked and broke a window.

Jeffrey M. Postman, 59, was charged with criminal mischief. He remains in the Pinellas County Jail in lieu of $500 bail. Police said Postman got on the bus in St. Petersburg and then refused to disembark after the driver, who remains unidentified, arrived at the PSTA facility at 3201 Schemer Drive. Police said the suspect finally got off, then began urinating on the side of the bus. He allegedly then kicked the side entry door of the bus, shattering a window. The suspect was arrested shortly after.
