Teacher charged in hit-and-run accident
PINELLAS PARK – A hit-and-run accident April 4 on U.S. 19 led to the arrest of a teacher on charges of leaving the scene of an accident involving injuries.

At about 2 a.m. that evening police received a phone call from an anonymous source that said the vehicle they were looking for had a tag number of J527LZ. An officer ran a vehicle tag check, and it came back to a Honda with an address in the city. Upon Officer E. Schroeder’s arrival at 34572 Gardenia Ave., he noticed the Honda had extensive fresh front end damage.

The officer contacted the suspect, Walter E. Bond, 61, who said he left the scene because he had been drinking earlier, reports said. Bond also told police he didn’t realize that he had hit anything. Bond was taken into custody and transported to county jail. He was released on a $5,000 bond. The driver of the other vehicle involved in the accident and her passenger were both taken to Northside Hospital.

Man charged with retail theft
PINELLAS PARK – A 27-year-old Pinellas Park man was arrested April 6 on retail theft charges. According to reports, police were notified that the suspect, identified as Andrew James Frontera, had taken a Sony PlayStation from the Game Stop at 7259 Park Blvd. without paying for it. Store employees told police that Frontera grabbed the gaming system while it was on the counter and ran out of the store, reports said.

Based on information provided by employees, police located the vehicle the suspect had been driving at 5851 80th Terrace. Officer J. Lagasse talked to a resident of the house who said that the suspect had been arrested for stealing at another store in St. Petersburg. The man told Lagasse that the suspect had been living at his house for the past week and used his vehicle without his knowledge while he was sleeping. Lagasse contacted Frontera at the county jail. The suspect said he did not remember the incident at Game Stop due to his taking drugs, drinking and blacking out. Frontera is being held on $5,000 bond.

Man arrested after fleeing from police
PINELLAS PARK – A 31-year-old St. Petersburg man was arrested after running a red light and fleeing from a traffic stop April 6 on U.S. 19. During the pursuit, Cpl. C. Perry located a 1996 Cadillac in the front yard of 5000 102nd Ave. As Perry approached the Cadillac, the suspect, identified as Ricardo Valdes, got out of the vehicle and fled on foot along 102nd Avenue. A police dog, Rocky, was deployed and apprehended the suspect about 100 yards west of the residence. Perry restrained the suspect with handcuffs and ordered the dog to release him.

According to the report, the suspect then said, “Damn, that was stupid, man. I’m sorry sir. I don’t have no license. That’s why I ran.”

While searching the vehicle, the dog put his nose on a white sunglasses case. Perry noticed the odor of cocaine coming from the interior of the case. During the investigation, police recovered less than two grams of cocaine, almost four grams of marijuana, four unidentifiable purple pills and $1,001 in currency. Valdes was charged with fleeing and eluding, possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana and driving with a suspended license. He was released from county jail on $7,400 bond.

Woman charged in exploitation case
PINELLAS PARK – Police have arrested a Pinellas Park woman April 3 on charges of grand theft and exploitation of a disabled adult. According to reports, Linda Lampe, 23, had her sister cash checks for her that she knew would bounce and then made her sister give her the money. Police were notified of the incident by a Department of Children investigator. The victim was a resident of an assisted living facility.

The checks were for $350, $280 and $110. Reports said Lampe was on probation for writing bad checks at the time of her arrest. She was booked into county jail on $10,000 bond.

Man arrested in sexual molestation case
PINELLAS PARK – A 26-year-old Pinellas Park man was arrested on counts of lewd and lascivious conduct and molestation and introduction of contraband into a detention facility.

During her stay at a friend’s house, the 13-year-old victim fell asleep on the living room couch. She later awoke to find the suspect unzipping his pants and putting his head down the front of her pants, attempting to molest her.

The victim identified the suspect, Robert Headley, who lives at the residence where the crime occurred. Police said Headley admitted to touching the victim two times during the night of March 28. He was released from county jail on a $22,250 bond.
