PINELLAS PARK – The Saddle Up Riding Club of Pinellas Park has adopted a pony with cancer.

Fancy is a 14-year-old paint pony who recently had a 2-inch tumor removed from her backside. She was living in a Hillsborough County pasture and her owner could not afford to board her or pay for the medical attention she required. The owner brought her to the Saddle Up Riding Club knowing she would get the care she needed.

On May 4 the riding club is hosting another horseback ride fundraiser for Fancy, the new barn and the Magic Beans Village therapeutic horses. Horse rides for all ages, miniature horse cart rides, games, hot dogs, snow cones and popcorn are on the agenda. The event will be at Helen Howarth Equestrian Park, 6301 94th Ave., from 1 to 5 p.m.

“We were amazed at the attendance at our SPCA event and hope to see many turn out again to help us with Fancy,” said Kellie Sipos, director of the Saddle Up Riding Club.

The pony is doing great, but she must have her wound flushed twice daily. She is still underweight, needs her teeth done and will always require extra medical attention

“We are committed to her for the long run and will do what it takes to give her the best qualify of life she could have,” Sipos said.

Walkers and volunteers for this event are needed.
