PINELLAS PARK – Three employees of a service shop were recently recognized for saving the life of a co-worker after a truck fell on him.
The three received Citizen Awards from the fire department during a recent City Council ceremony.
Fire Chief Doug Lewis, who made the presentations, said on Jan. 2 Scott Weisman, a mechanic at Brinkman’s Auto Service, 11922 U.S. 19, was working on a Ford Ranger that was raised about 7 feet off the ground on a hydraulic lift.
“Somehow,” Lewis said, “the front of the truck fell off the arms of the lift and landed on Mr. Weisman.”
One of the front tires was pressing on Weisman’s chest. Four other workers, Paul Brinkman, Brian Hanna, Larry Gibson and Ray Urtnowski, heard the noise when the truck fell and ran to Weisman’s assistance.
“They were able to jack up the front of the truck and pull Mr. Weisman from under the front tire,” Lewis said.
