PINELLAS PARK – City police officers will be waiting on tables July 10, with tips going to finance a walk-a-thon for charity.
Police will be at BJ’s Restaurant and Brewhouse, 3800 Park Blvd., 5 to 10 p.m.
The walk-a-thon, dubbed The Walk for Hope, will occur in December when Sgt. Tracey Schofield, special operations supervisor, walks from Pinellas Park across the state to Fort Pierce. The 200-mile jaunt is expected to take 9 days to complete.
Proceeds from the walk will go to the Pinellas Park Boys & Girls Club and Pinellas Hope, a homeless shelter on 126th Avenue.
The youth club has been open to local youngsters since 1969. It was closed last fall due to the deteriorating condition of the building which is located at 7790 61st St.
Just last week local volunteers painted most of the internal walls, but thousands of dollars are needed to repair the roof and replace the air conditioning system. A fund-raising event will be held July 11 at the Performing Arts Center.
Contact Councilman Rick Butler at 541-7713 for more information about the project or to donate time, materials or money.
