City has numerous improvement projects in the works

PINELLAS PARK – The city has a number of utilities, traffic, engineering and other improvement projects in the works.

Tom Nicholls, public works administrator, also noted that a total of 7,079 residents are participating in the reclaimed water system program that allows the watering of property almost without any restrictions.

Among the improvements are:

• Pump station modifications have been approved to proceed and should be done in about 270 days. Construction is about 65 percent completed.

• Construction will begin later this year or early 2008 to relocate certain utilities on Bryan Dairy Road.

• Design for Phase 3 of the Park Boulevard Stormwater Project has been authorized. Designing should take approximately 13 months to complete.

• Modifications will begin at Lift Station No. 30 of the city water system. It will take 270 days to complete the project.

• A 7-month design project for a left turn lane at 66th Street and 82nd Avenue has been authorized to proceed.

• Median modifications on 49th Street and Park Plaza and on Park Boulevard in front of the Home Depot store are expected to be completed soon.

• Final plans for a left turn lane for westbound and eastbound traffic at 110th Avenue and 49th Street are expected by the end of this month.

• Final plans for a traffic signal at Gateway and 40th Street should be ready by month’s end.

The following engineering projects have been announced:

• Additional funding has been obtained for Phase 2 of the Park Boulevard Stormwater Project at Park Boulevard and 66th Street. It will be completed in 450 days.

• Engineering services and utilities design staff have worked with community planning to develop proposals for funding applications for Phase 3 of the Park Boulevard Stormwater Project.

• Some $200,000 in funding has been approved for the construction of new sidewalks in the Park Boulevard business redevelopment district that is currently under construction.

• The U.S. 19 “flyover” project from 49th Street to 126th Avenue is currently under construction. The city is working with the Florida Department of Transportation to complete landscaping projects and irrigation equipment for future landscaping improvements.

• The Florida Department of Transportation and Pinellas County have launched a study for a multi-lane expressway on 118th Avenue from U.S. 19 to I-275.

• The city is working with Pinellas County to upgrade water lines along the Bryan Dairy Road corridor from 72nd Street to Starkey Road.

• Funding for a bridge at 114th Avenue over the Pinebrook Canal is being sought.
