Man arrested for altering check
PINELLAS PARK – A man was arrested Nov. 13 after he allegedly altered a check for $200 more than its face value. Larry E. Newton, 35, of St. Petersburg was charged with uttering a false check. He is free from the Pinellas County Jail on $5,000 bail. Police said Newton, who works for an area moving company, was given a check for $50 as a tip after a job. He allegedly changed the amount to $250. The victim called police when she discovered the alleged forgery.

Man arrested for assault
PINELLAS PARK – A man was arrested Nov. 24 for allegedly punching his roommate in the head after he allowed two prostitutes into a motel room. Charged with battery is Albert B. Kvecas, 45, who listed his address as Room 118 at the La Mark Charles Motel on 34th Street. He is free on bail from the Pinellas County Jail. Police said Kvecas and his male roommate became involved in an altercation after the latter brought two prostitutes into the motel room. Kvecas allegedly punched the victim in the head and left. The suspect was arrested shortly after on the motel property.

Can you hear me now?
PINELLAS PARK – A homeless man demanded $20 for a cell phone he found at a bus stop on Nov. 18, but he walked away empty handed when police arrived. Police said the transient found the cell phone at a bus stop in the 10000 block of Belcher Road. He told the owner that he could get his phone back for $20. The victim, police said, balked and later said he would pay the $20. When the suspect arrived on the scene with the phone he was stopped by police. No charges were filed since the victim did not wish to pursue the matter.

Cat shot by unknown assailant
PINELLAS PARK – A calico pet cat named “Spooky” was shot Nov. 27 by an unknown person. The cat suffered paralysis and had to be euthanized. Police said the cat’s owner discovered the animal in the back yard. A medical examination revealed that the cat was wounded by a .22 caliber bullet. Its hind legs were paralyzed. No suspects have been identified.

Grinder charged in power tool theft
PINELLAS PARK – A transient was arrested Nov. 24 after he allegedly tried to steal power tools from a store. Charged with theft was James R. Grinder, no address. He was transported to the Pinellas County Jail. Police said Grinder allegedly stuffed power tools into his backpack while at the Wal-Mart Super Store on U.S. 19 and tried to walk out without paying for them.

Multiple traffic charges lodged
PINELLAS PARK – A city man was arrested Nov. 21 after he allegedly was caught driving 17 mph over the speed limit. Charged with being a habitual traffic offender is Dennis L. Drake, 26, who also is charged with speeding and not wearing a seatbelt. He was released from the Pinellas County Jail on bail. Police said Drake was allegedly clocked by traffic police speeding in a 25 mph zone northbound on 47th Street near 82nd Avenue. A check indicated that Drake’s drivers license was suspended.
