SEMINOLE – A three-hour festival geared toward interactive recreational pursuits is set for Saturday, June 28, at the Seminole Recreation Center, 9100 113th St.
The city’s second annual Fit2Fun Family Fitness Festival kicks off at 9 a.m. with an array of activities for children and families to explore. Admission is free.
“We had 500 to 600 attend last year,” said Seminole Recreation Director Jim Sheets, “and we suspect we could have 1,000 people this year.”
Organizer Duane Crandall has lined up a group of 20 vendors who will demonstrate and solicit participation in their respective activities.
One of the more innovative is Sun King Discs, which markets the relatively new sport of disc golf.
Other vendors will be showcasing archery, yoga, weight loss, stroller-fitness, gymnastics, aerobics, martial arts, surfing, bicycles, basketball, flag football and soccer.
“We want people to try out all of these things,” said Crandall, a recreation program coordinator for the city. “It will all be interactive.”
Crandall said the event is designed to showcase recreational activities available in the community.
“We took what we did last year and built on it,” said Crandall. “We’re trying to make it more fluid for those attending – a better flow.”
Other amenities will include bounce houses for the kids, music from a local DJ and an opportunity to donate blood with Florida Blood Services.
